Chelmsford Morris Galleries

Throughout the year we are very lucky to have had such wonderful people who take photographs for us. Most of us are usually busy dancing or playing so we are grateful to so many of our friends and family for the memories we all treasure. If you would like to submit your images for publication either on our website or on social media please email: and let us know if you would like a mention or name check/tag. Thank you.

There are videos on YouTube that have been uploaded over the years and we do have our own channel. Here is the link to a few on our website .....

Foolish Day of Dance

Our first outing of 2023 was up to Halesworth in Suffolk on Saturday 1st April for their annual day of dance and despite the rather inclement weather, everyone made the absolute most of the day with umbrellas adding to all the colour. For six of our ladies, it was their first dance out, so congratulations to them! So this year is off to a great start and there's so much more to come!

Many thanks to Sas Astro for some of the photos ......

Those of us in Chelmsford Morris who don't mind getting up before dawn gathered together on Galleywood Common to greet the May Day sunrise. It was well worth the early start and you can tell we had good fun. The sun came up and we danced and sang to welcome Spring after a long, cold and wet winter.

We were invited by Westminster Morris Dancers to a day of dancing in London with many other sides and we enjoyed a whole day walking and performing in various locations beginning at St. Margaret's, Westminster and ending at the Duke of York Steps. We would like to thank Westminster Morris for the invitation to a wonderful day out.

On Saturday, 3rd June, Thaxted Morris invited us to join morris sides from around the country. We joined a coach tour calling in and dancing at The Bell, Great Bardfield, The Fox, Finchingfield, The Red Lion, Great Sampford, The Plough, Radwinter, The King’s Arms, Saffron Walden and lastly The Plough, Debden!! What a day!

Then it was back to Thaxted for the feast - brilliantly well organised as usual, thank you Thaxted Morris Men!

Then it was more show dances and massed dancing followed by the eerie Abbots Bromley Horn Dance. An amazing day and evening.

From mid-May to the end of July we visit various pubs around Essex for a get together socially but also to dance and play music. This year we seemed to be drawing quite a crowd and we had such a good welcome wherever we went. The gallery contains photos sent in to Facebook from Paul Starr, Adrian Batsford, Paul Clarke and other members of Chelmsford Morris. Thank you everyone!
